Glasgow is quite simply the shopping capital of Scotland. It is home to the biggest brands and high street stores around, which makes shopping in Glasgow a fantastic experience! If you cannot find what you are looking for in Glasgow then the chances are it doesn’t exist! It’s safe to say that shopping breaks in Glasgow bring lots of visitors to the city.
If you are looking for high street brands then look no further than Glasgow’s three main, connected, shopping precincts of Sauchiehall Street, Buchanan Street and Argyle Street. Ranging from low cost to high end, there is something for all tastes and budgets for your shopping break. Buchanan Street is also home to the city centres newest shopping centre, the Buchanan Galleries. Located just off Argyle Street is the newly refurbished St. Enoch Centre, formally one of the city’s main train stations. Within these three streets there is enough shops to satisfy most tastes.
If you have an appetite for more exclusive items then why not try the Princes Square Shopping Centre, just off Buchanan Street, or the Italian centre, located in the Merchant City area. Brimming with exclusive boutiques and eateries these are a haven for those with a flair for the finer things in life.
If high street brands and department stores are not for you then the west end of the city harbours a plethora of independent boutiques of all kinds. The Byres Road and Kelvinbridge area is a virtual treasure chest of hand made crafts, clothing and jewellery shops. You can be sure to find that unique gift here safe in the knowledge that it won’t be found anywhere else.
Glasgow is also home to a number of markets. The two most famous of these are the Barras and Blochairn. Both these markets allow you to see Glasgow and its many characters at their finest. If you are looking for a bargain or just looking for an entertaining day out then take a wander through one of these markets and you will be amazed at what you will find.
If you manage to exhaust all that the city centre has to offer during your shopping break in Glasgow, outside the city there are a number of shopping centres which are home to a host of high street shops all under one roof. Within a short distance of the city centre are the Silverburn, Braehead and Glasgow Fort Shopping Centres.
